Lightning in a bottle. That is head coach Andy Kennedy's description of Devan Downey. An explosive player with and without the ball, Downey has the uncanny ability to finish at the rim in traffic particularly well for a player of his size. A premier scorer in high school, his quickness and strength have helped him become an effective defender on the ball.

2005-06 SEASON:
• Named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team.
• Team's third-leading scorer (12.3) and leader in assists (4.1) and steals (2.0).
• Has averaged 5.2 assists over his last five games.
• Has at least one steal in all but five games and had a streak of 14 games with at least one steal; has had three or more steals in 11 games.
• Scored 16 points and dished out 10 assists, one shy of his career high, in the win over No. 16 West Virginia (3/4/06), his second double-double.
• Tallied 13 points and had four assists and two steals vs. No. 2 Villanova (2/23/06).
• Had 16 points, three assists and four steals in the win over Providence (2/17/06), sinking a pair of free throws with 3.4 seconds remaining to provide the winning points in the 66-64 victory, earning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors.
• Keyed win over Syracuse (2/15/06) with 16 points and seven assists.
• Scored 15 points, making a game-clinching layup with 20 seconds left in the win over Louisville (2/6/06), also finishing with four assists.
• Tallied a game-high 21 points, four assists and four steals in win vs. Rutgers (1/22/06).
• Scored 22 points vs. Xavier (1/19/06), making a career-high four 3-pointers, including a trey with 30 seconds left in regulation that helped rally UC from a six-point deficit and send the game into overtime.
• Keyed UC's 10-game win streak, averaging 14.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.1 steals.
• Recorded a career-high five steals vs. Marquette (1/7/06).
• Dished out a career-high 11 assists vs. North Carolina A&T (12/30/05), and with 13 points, recorded his first career double-double.
• Keyed the Las Vegas Holiday Classic victory over Dayton (12/22/05) with 21 points, going 7-of-13 from the field and 7-of-7 at the foul line.
• Earned BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks (Dec. 12, Dec. 19).
• Scored a career-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting vs. Ohio (12/14/05), also finishing with five assists and four steals.
• Made his first career start vs. Holy Cross (11/25/05) and responded with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
• Exploded for 21 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field vs. Illinois State (11/22/05), also had four steals and three assists.

PRE-CINCINNATI CAREER:
• Named South Carolina Class AAA Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball as a senior at Chester High.
• Averaged 36.9 points, 6.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 steals.
• Showed long-distance scoring ability by averaging three 3-pointers per game.
• Had a single-game scoring high of 67 points and once made 32 free throws in a game.
• Scored 2,738 career points.
• Three-time first team all-state selection.
• Finalist for national Gatorade Player of the Year honors.
