POSTGAME QUOTES

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati

January 19, 2008

Cincinnati, OH - Fifth Third Arena

Pittsburgh

Jamie Dixon, Head Coach

Opening Statement

"Congratulations to Cincinnati. I thought they played very hard. It's a team that has battled through a lot of things. I was proud of our guys for playing hard and fighting back. We didn't play as well as we needed to. I thought we took care of the ball. I thought only turning over the ball eight times would be good, but they got to the free throw line and shot twice as many as we did. All credit to them and a very good job. A well coached team. We've got to get better."

On UC's 13-0 Run

"We didn't turn it over, but it was mainly our shot selection. They made some plays, and we put them at the free throw line. We talk about getting good shots at every possession, but I think we rushed it. We thought we had to score too quickly. There were plenty of possessions to get back in the game, but we realized that too late. We defended better at the end, but we can't put them at the line for 20 points."

UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

Mick Cronin, Head Coach

Opening Statement

"Today was a big game for us. They are a team who knows how to win BIG EAST championships regardless of players being injured, graduated, or going to the NBA. They refuse to go away. We gave them chances to go away, but they refused. They always have someone step up - like Sam Young - who made the game. We showed a lot of patience in the second half. We were determined that they weren't going to take Deonta out of the game. Our shot selection was a lot better than the other night at Notre Dame. We had a lot of contributions. I was really proud of our guys. A benchmark win for us over a team that really has been a benchmark program in the BIG EAST for the last nine years."

On Veterans Stepping Up

"Before I can get on a freshman for doing something, Marvin, John, Marcus, or Deonta say something to them. That is how it is on normal teams. You have veteran guys that don't do dumb things because they get it. Before you can say something, they've already said something to the freshmen. It has been happening for the last two to three weeks."

On Jamual Warren's Play

"He missed practice. He got sick the day of the Notre Dame game. That is a concern of mine right now because apparently the flu is running around. Jamual is all about winning and it permeates down through the team. The young guys see what it is all about because of his personality being so strong. He played a great game besides the last two turnovers."

Adam Hrycaniuk, Sr., F

On The Crowd

"Our crowd is getting involved and it is easier to play. We do all we can to make them happy. I like it. I hope it is going to be a sell out the next few games. "

On Playing Better

"I needed this game. I didn't play great, but I made a few shots. Lately, I've been concentrating on defense and not thinking about offense anymore. We have a lot of guys who can score so I don't have to worry about it. All I have to worry about is rebounding and playing good defense."

Deonta Vaughn, So., G

On Scoring

"I was just being patient. Early on I had two fouls so I was sitting on the bench, and I couldn't get going like I wanted to because I picked up two quick ones. I have to play smarter going in to the UConn game."

Jamual Warren, Sr., G

On Home Court Advantage

"I think we play better defense at home when we have the crowd. When we are away we take some plays off, but when we are here, we play hard. When they come in here, they are definitely going to struggle in here. We are going to try to get the fans in here."

On Two Teams' Toughness

"It's a good sign for our toughness. We can bring some toughness to the table too. I think they played Deonta Vaughn well and the big man - John Williamson - pretty well. They played strong, but I think we came out and played stronger. I think that was the key to our victory."
