Mick Cronin, Head Coach
"Well on a night that our offense - despite not having Yancy Gates for the bulk of the game and Lance Stephenson - for us to shoot those percentages, I have to be happy with that. Our assist totals were extremely high. We had some guys step up. Jaquon Parker had his best game of the year, by far. Steve Toyloy gutted it out. We had to sub him out because he was having stomach flu issues. He had to come out and throw up a couple of times. It wasn't a pretty sight from what I hear. Obviously, we missed some free throws late. Deonta had a great night and so did Rashad. Our offense was excellent. We gave up too many layups in the first half and really for the game. They really hit some great shots late. They kept battling. I'm really happy we got out with a win.
On Lance Stephenson's condition after sitting out with a sprained ankle
"He is day-to-day. He was mad enough that he wasn't playing tonight. He will be off tomorrow again and it will give him 48 hours. We will re-evaluate him again. We won't put anyone out there on one leg. He will do anything he can to play at Louisville, but it is tough to say."
On Rashad Bishop's performance
"I'd like to take credit for that. I have talks with Rashad all the time about being assertive offensively. The challenge for us is to have consistent performers.
On offensive production
"If you look at certain teams, their production is consistent from certain players. We haven't had that at times, and that is why our offensive hasn't been consistent. Deonta gets one basket at St. John's, but Steve and Yancy had great nights. If they just have normal nights, we win that game easily. It is just us striving for consistency and keep improving. Our defense wasn't as suffocating as it has been at times."
"With Yancy out and Thomas and Darnell not playing well, we were forced to play small, which hurt our rebounding."
Why did you decide to start Jaquon Parker tonight?
"Just practice. He has practiced well and he has gotten better. I think in the snippets that he has played that he has shown that he won't make mistakes. He has taken care of the basketball. The reason we signed Jaquon is because Coach Larry Davis went to the state game and watched him. He is a gamer and he has shown that. Certain guys get out there and their toughness makes them better. One thing about Jaquon is that he doesn't lack for toughness. I always knew he was going to be a good player. I didn't know if I was being fair to him being at the point. He talked about being more of a slasher in high school, and obviously he did great with it tonight."
On Parker Starting at Louisville
"We have been trying all year to have guys be more consistent. So I don't want to jinx it. Maybe he won't have the stat line he had tonight, but there is no doubt that he showed he is capable. Cashmere didn't do anything wrong.
On preparing for full court
"We pressed South Florida tonight because we started preparing Monday and Tuesday. We didn't do it as much in the first half because our perimeter guys played 35 minutes. I would like to continue doing that. Louisville is a team that likes the full court pressure especially at home. If you don't handle the ball in Freedom Hall, you will be down 17 even if you are Villanova."
Deonta Vaughn, Sr., G
On Playing With Jaquon Parker
"I think he did great for his first start. You don't see many who come in like that - besides me - to produce like he did. He was strong with the basketball, and all around he played great today. I see him do that a lot in practice. Usually we are in the same practice team. He knows how to play the position that he is blessed to play. He just works hard every day and every time he steps out on the court."
On Playing without Lance Stepehson
"We played the way we normally play. It gives other teams three other players to guard. Jaquon and Rashad are playing better now. Teams will try to get us out of our offense. It let us see what we would be without Lance. He is a great addition to our team, but it shows that Park knows how to play too."
Jaquon Parker, Fr., G
On first start
"It felt good. I had to make the best of this because I don't know if it will come around again. I feel good."
On being the missing piece
"Yeah, I do. I would be lying if I said I don't. Who doesn't want to play? When you are playing well, yeah."
On getting ready
"Coach Davis told me before the game just to be solid and get everyone involved. And when you score, just to make the best of it. Shots were going in. It was a good game for me. Oh man, that's good (on having 5 assists and 0 turnovers). There were some close calls."
On playing more after this game
"Hopefully. You never know. Every game is a tough one. I hope so after this game. But who knows. My main focus is winning and getting to the NCAA Tournament, whether it is me on the bench or out there. Let's just get there."
University of South Florida
Stan Heath, Head Coach
"Well it was a good win for Cincinnati, and I thought we dug ourselves a hole in the first half. We had some questionable shots that came back to haunt us. We have been hurting from the three and it has bothered us defensively. We didn't guard or defend. I'm not unhappy with anything else. We rebounded well against a good rebounding team. You have to bring your defense when you play on the road. Give Cincinnati credit."
On Jaquon Parker's performance
"Very surprised. I won't be too happy with my assistant coaches for scouting. He stepped up. I didn't really know how to look at Lance not playing. I was afraid we let our guard down and relaxed. I was afraid that Deonta would step up, and both of those things happened. A guy like Parker really stepped up and made some great plays and shots. He did a nice job for their team."
On Dominique Jones
"I thought the first half Jones was his own worst enemy. He forced some things. He is used to the extra defensive effort. I thought he forced some things early in the first half. I thought he got some better looks in the second. It wasn't one of his better game, but the guy does a lot for us so I can't complain."
