Jim Calhoun, Head Coach
"Two years ago it seemed like we never won a big game, but this was a big game. It seemed like we stole the ball four or five times in a row. That really changed the game when we went to the press and were able to steal. Stopping Vaughn is a Herculean task. He's a great basketball player and a great competitor. I liked that he wanted to make the play at the end, and that is what you want. Jeff Adrien, who didn't have a great game, stepped up and made those free throws at the end of the game. I think what Mick's done is a tremendous job of mimicking Pittsburgh or an old Connecticut team of getting into your stuff. It was clearly as good a win that we've had in sometime. I mean that because we were down 12 and we found it down in ourselves to win. They only had 11 turnovers, which they came at the right time for us."
On Coach Cronin
"I want to congratulate Cincinnati. We have not played them in two years and we haven't played them under Mick. As of this point, he is obviously BIG EAST Coach of the Year. We have a long way to go in the season, but he is obvious at this point. They have come a long way for only winning two games last year. He's done a wonderful job. They have great players."
UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI
Mick Cronin, Head Coach
"Disappointing loss. I thought we played well enough to win. Obviously our last five minutes we made a lot of mistakes. We blew a 15-point lead against Pitt, but we were able to hold on. You give UConn a lot of credit. We try to prepare to have the lead like we did against Pitt and maintain it. Our repeated turnovers for layups got us beat. They never quit and their kids competed tonight."
On Vaughn's Final Play
"He was trying to create a shot. Somehow he couldn't get the ball off. He tried to shoot the ball, but he was unable to. You have to ask yourself why he wasn't able to get it up. I wonder what caused him to get a shot up, but after that, he made a great pass to Sikes, who had an open 12-foooter. He showed great poise and he had to deal with what he had to deal with. He was able to make a great pass to Marcus Sikes, but unfortunately, it didn't go down."
Deonta Vaughn, So., G
On Shooting Performance
"I just played within the offense. I worked all week after not having a good shooting performance against Pittsburgh. I had my wind back, and I took extra shots after practice. I just played my game and let the game come to me."
On Blowing a 12-Point Lead
"It's very disappointing. We had the lead like the last couple of games and we turned the ball over a couple of times. I threw two silly passes and one of them was unforced. Things happen. We have to get back and be solid. We can't let people get to the free-throw line as much."
