Postgame Quotes

Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin
On Sean Kilpatrick
"SK ( Sean Kilpatrick) shot a flat ball.  We’ll take a little credit, because everybody didn’t recruit him as you know.  He was a very lightly recruited high-major player.  We were his only official visit.  He’s a true scorer and he shot it soft.  He just needed to change his mechanics.  I’ll tell you one thing that’s a lost art.  A reporter asked Kevin Garnett how he comes out with great energy every game and he said it was easy.  I hit pause and I asked the guys what they thought about that.  I told them that he’s (Garnett) wrong, because if it was easy for guys to come out and practice and play hard, everybody would do it.  Sean Kilpatrick does it.”

On the difference in the two St. John’s games
“Our attitude was much different.  When you lose you got to give the other team credit.  I don’t like coaches who only say “we stunk”.  Maybe it’s because of what they did.  We tried obviously to be a little more prepared for their match-up type zones and their switching man-to-mans.  Our passing was much better and obviously our rebounding was much better.  We played a lot more zone tonight than we did before.  It’s easier to find D’Angelo (Harrison) in the zone.”

On playing St. John’s again
“Watching them, I thought they could have beat Duke.  If they were a little more patient they could have got them, Duke couldn’t guard them.  I thought West Virginia came in here and watched the film and denied them but it was a lay-up drill.  We don’t believe in giving up lay-ups.  We just did a good job, our kids were really focused.  It’s always scary when you play a team twice.  We haven’t played Marquette yet, but when we play Villanova I hope our guys are smart enough to know because we won doesn’t mean anything.  I think the losing team always has the edge in a rematch game.”

Cincinnati Player Quotes
No. 23 - Sean Kilpatrick, G
On his game tonight
and playing in the Garden
“Going back into the locker room coach was just telling me I was rushing it a little bit.  I was a little too anxious.  In an atmosphere like this you tend to do that.  You get so excited to be here and play here, especially being a New York kid.  My teammates just told me to calm down.  When the shots were there I was just taking them.”

On UC’s depth advantage…
“Well they’re a young team, but they have tremendous players like Moe Harkless and D’Angelo Harrison.  When you have a deep team like us and then on top of that we have length and bruisers inside that can rebound.  We tend to take advantage of it and I think we did a great job of that tonight.”

No. 1 - Cashmere Wright, G
On importance of the game…
I think it was a must-win.  We lost to them in Cincinnati so we had to come here and get a win.  We’re trying to make the tourney for Yancy (Gates) and Dion (Dixon) for their senior season so we had to get a win.”

On the difference in the two St. John’s games…
I feel like last game we came out thinking we were going to win instead of playing like we were going to win.”
