Tonight's match up was UC's first against Belmont. UC is 4-2 all-time versus teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The loss ends UC's 42-game winning streak in home openers. The last time UC lost a home opener was a 65-55 loss to Miami (OH) in 1964-65. The Bearcats are now 86-20 all-time in home openers. It is Cincinnati's second loss in its last 28 season openers.
Senior John Williamson pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the first half and finished the game with 13 overall.
In their collegiate debuts, senior Adam Hrycaniuk and freshman Larry Davis each posted double digits in points, tallying 15 and 11, respectively. Hrycaniuk also pulled down seven rebounds.
Sophomore Deonta Vaughn joined Davis and Hyrcaniuk in double digits with a team-high 19 points.
Over the final 2:49 of the first half, UC went on a 12-4 run to take the lead. Deonta Vaughn keyed the run with a three-pointer with 50 seconds left in the half to give the Bearcats their first lead since 14:06 of the period at 41-39. He then stole the end-bounds pass and laid it in to extend the lead to 43-39 at the break. He finished the first half with 10 points.
Starting at the 18:46 mark of the second half, Belmont went on a 9-0 run over the next 1:25 to erase a five-point deficit and go up by three, 51-48. The Bruins expanded the lead to 13 points (73-60) with 10:12 remaining in the half.
