CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team held visiting NC State to 22 points in the second half on the strength of a tough defensive effort to move to a 68-57 win, Tuesday in Global Sports Shootout action inside Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati (2-0) held NC State (1-1) to a 26.7 (8-for-30) shooting performance in the second half while blocking nine shots and forcing eight turnovers. The Wolfpack shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) for the game, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from behind the arc and 57 percent (12-of-21) from the free-throw line.

The Bearcats pounded the ball inside, holding a 36-22 advantage in the paint and turned 17 offensive rebounds into 16 points.

Sean Kilpatrick (Yonkers, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep) led three teammates in double figures, pouring in a game high 22 points. Kilpatrick drained three triples and was 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. He also had three assists and a pair of steals.

The game was a see-saw battle throughout, featuring eight lead changes and 12 ties. The score was knotted at 35 at the break and a pair of Kilpatrick free throws with 10:19 left in the game squared things up at 48 points apiece.

From there, Kilpatrick drained a three with 9:45 remaining that sent UC on a 17-9 run to end the game with Kilpatrick ringing up nine points over the last 8:40.
