Bearcats Men's Basketball Drops 73-53 Decision at UAB|

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Senior center Adam Hrycaniuk scored a career-high 16 points, but it was not enough as UAB's Reggie Huffman poured in 18 points and Walter Sharpe added 15 to lead the Blazers to a 73-54 victory over Cincinnati.
UAB (6-3) led 34-27 at halftime and built the margin to 26 points in the second half as the Blazers ended Cincinnati's four-game winning streak.
Senior guard Marvin Gentry added 14 points of his own and was the only other Bearcat to break into double digits for Cincinnati (4-3).
UAB's Robert Vaden scored 13 points and Lawrence Kinnard had 11 for UAB. Huffman grabbed nine rebounds, all on the offensive boards, to lead UAB to a 36-29 rebounding advantage.
Huffman scored on a layup for the first points of the game and UAB was ahead all the way.
UC fell behind 27-12 early thanks to a 13-0 run by UAB that was sparked by Walter Sharpe and Frank Holmes who each scored two inside baskets apiece.
Gentry scored six of his 14 points on two 3-pointers late in the half to pull Cincinnati to within seven points at intermission, but UAB took control with a 15-2 spurt to start the second half.
Huffman had three baskets in that stretch to help give UAB a 49-29 lead.
Cincinnati could get no closer than 18 points the rest of the way and the Bearcats saw their three game winning streak snapped.
The difference in the game was UAB's ability to score on the Bearcats' 19 turnovers, scoring 30 points.
UC now takes the next week off for exams and will face Illinois State Saturday, Dec. 8 in Normal, Ill.
