CINCINNATI - Lance Stephenson scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds leading No. 19/19 University of Cincinnati to a 63-59 victory over Miami University on Thursday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The game was the 145th meeting between the two schools and the win marked Cincinnati's 11th straight win over the RedHawks.

In a sloppy first half, Miami scored the first bucket and the two teams played evenly for six minutes. Stephenson turned it on at the 13:34 mark and scored eight consecutive points during an 11-0 stretch that put the Bearcats up, 15-6, with 10:17 left in the period.  Miami used 31 seconds to score six points and pull within three, 15-12. Stephenson responded with his 10th point of the half, but UC was unable to pull away before halftime, taking a 24-23 advantage into the locker room.

UC failed to hit a three pointer in the first half (0-for-7) and shot 32.1 percent from the floor. Miami shot 33.3 percent from the floor and stayed in the game with eight points off turnovers and six fastbreak points.

Cashmere Wright got in the scoring column in the second half, landing a 3-pointer that began a 15-7 run for the Bearcats to open the half, giving UC a 39-30 advantage with 14:20 to go. Miami came right back, taking 27 seconds to score five points and pull within four with 12:52 remaining. The Bearcats pushed out to a 9-point lead again before the teams played a see-saw battle over the next 5:51. Wright hit back-to-back baskets and Dion Dixon curled off a screen and drained a bucket as UC pushed out to a 10-point lead and held on for the win. Wright was knocking down jumpers left and right and finished the half, and game, with a career-high tying 12 points.

Cincinnati outrebounded Miami, 38-29, and had 33 bench points compared to Miami's 19. Yancy Gates matched a career-high with four blocks and had eight points. Stephenson handed out three assists and had three steals to go with his 17 points and eight rebounds. The Bearcats shot 55 percent in the second stanza and made two of its five three point attempts.

UC will play on Sunday, Dec. 13 at Xavier in the annual Crosstown Shootout. The 77th meeting between the two schools begins at 7 p.m and will be televised on ESPNU.
