The No. 24/No.23 University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team returns to the court after an eight-day layoff to play host to Rutgers on Wednesday at Fifth Third Arena. The contest starts at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised by FOX Sports Ohio and also air on 700 WLW-AM.

(UC 16-4, 4-3 BIG EAST) is coming off its first loss away from home in eight games this season, a 57-55 setback at then-No. 3 Syracuse on Jan. 21. Sean Kilpatrick led the Bearcats with a game-high 21 points and six three-pointers. JaQuon Parker added 11 points and six rebounds. UC led by six at 54-48 on a three-pointer by Parker with 3:46 remaining before the Orange closed on a 9-1 run.

Rutgers (12-7, 3-5 BIG EAST) dropped a 66-54 decision at Connecticut on Sunday. Jerome Seagears led the Scarlet Knights with a game-high 21 points and four three-pointers. Teammate Eli Carter added 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.

UC posted a 68-58 win at Rutgers earlier this month on Jan. 12. Cashmere Wright scored a game-high 23 points in the Bearcat victory that also saw JaQuon Parker (11) and Sean Kilpatrick (10) reach double figures in scoring. Myles Mack led Rutgers with 15 points.

UC leads the overall series 13-4, including a 6-1 advantage in Cincinnati. The Bearcats have won six of the last seven meetings.

Cincinnati Storylines
-Coaches from both teams will be wearing sneakers on Wednesday as a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer and Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend to help find a cure for cancer.
-Sean Kilpatrick is averaging 25.0 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the field (21 of 46) and 42.4 percent from three-point range (14 of 33) in the last three games. He enters the week ranked third in the BIG EAST, averaging 18.4 points.
-Cashmere Wright returned to the starting lineup against Syracuse on Jan. 21. He ranks among the league leaders in seven categories (through Jan. 26): three-pointers made (third with 2.47); three-point shooting (seventh at 42.0 percent); steals (sixth at 1.89); assist-to-turnover ratio (tied for 10th at 1.83-to-1); free-throw shooting (10th at 78.8 percent; scoring (13th at 14.5 points) and assists (14th at 3.47).
-Wright needs three steals on Wednesday to pass Darnell Burton (184 steals from 1993-97) for second in UC history.
-Cheikh Mbodj is second in the BIG EAST and 29th in the nation with 2.45 blocks per game.
-The Bearcats are averaging 6.7 blocks a game as a team this season. The average would rank third in school history behind only the 2005 (6.85 bpg) and 2000 (6.76 bpg) squads.
-The Bearcats rank ninth in the nation in rebounding margin at +8.5 in statistics through Jan. 24. UC has been outrebounded in only three of its 20 games and only once in league play (St. John’s, 40-34).

Scouting Rutgers
-Rutgers comes to Cincinnati having lost three consecutive games. The Scarlet Knights are 1-3 since losing at home to the Bearcats 68-58 on Jan. 12.
-Rutgers ranked among the BIG EAST leaders in free-throw shooting (first at 73.5 percent), field goal shooting (fourth at 45.8 percent) and three-point shooting (fifth at 34.0 percent) in league statistics through Jan. 26.
-Eli Carter leads the team in scoring (15.4 points) and is second in three-pointers made (1.58 per game) and free-throw shooting (89.8 percent).
-Myles Mack is second on the squad in scoring (12.8 points). He is shooting a team-best 43.6 percent from three-point range (34 of 78) and 50.3 percent from the field. He leads the team with 35 steals.
-Dane Miller (5.9 rebounds per game) and Wally Judge (5.6 rpg) rank first and second on the team, respectively, in rebounding.
-The Scarlet Knights were picked to finish 11th in the BIG EAST according to a preseason poll of league coaches.
-Rutgers was 14-18 overall last season with a 6-12 league record, finishing 11th in the conference standings.
