Three Bearcats Earn NABC All-District 25 Honors

CINCINNATI – Three University of Cincinnati men’s basketball players earned All-District 25 honors Wednesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Senior guard Troy Caupain (Midlothian, Va./Cosby HS) and junior forward Kyle Washington (Champlin, Minn./NC State) were recognized as first-team selections while Jacob Evans (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael the Archangel) was tabbed with second-team accolades.

Caupain, named a second team All-American Athletic Conference selection by the league’s coaches earlier this month, averaged 10.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 steals in 2016-17. He finished his senior campaign ranked sixth in the nation with a 3.36-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and was listed among The American leaders in assists (sixth at 4.4), steals (13th at 1.2), minutes played (22nd at 32.3) and points (27th at 10.5).

He completed his UC career as the school’s all-time assist leader (515), ranked second in career wins (102), third in career minutes (3,980), tied for third in games played (137) and tied for 22nd in career points (1,317).

Caupain was named second team NABC All-District 25 a year ago.

Washington, named a second team All-American Athletic Conference selection by the league’s coaches earlier this month, posted seven double-doubles while averaging 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds and shooting 51.0 percent (184 of 361) from the floor.

The left-hander ranked among the conference leaders in field goal percentage (fifth at .510), blocks (tied for ninth at 1.2), rebounds (14th at 6.8) and points (17th at 12.9).

Evans, who was named to the 2017 American Championship All-Tournament team, led the Bearcats averaging 13.5 points to go with 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his first season as a full-time starter. He also led UC with 69 three-pointers.

Evans completed the season ranked among the league leaders in three-point field goal percentage (fifth at .418), steals (ninth at 1.3), field goal percentage (11th at .473), points (12th at 13.5), three-pointers made (12th at 1.9), free throw percentage (14th at .732) and minutes played (26th at 31.6).
