NCAA Release

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati will serve as the host institution for the First and Second Rounds of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship to be played March 17 and 19 at U.S. Bank Arena. The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced Tuesday the cities that will serve as host sites for first and second rounds and regional games for the 2019-2022 championships.

It marks the first time the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship will visit Cincinnati and U.S. Bank Arena since the 1992 NCAA Southeast First and Second Rounds. The venue also has served as host site for the 1979 NCAA Midwest Regional, the 1987 NCAA Midwest Regional and the 1988 NCAA Southeast First and Second Rounds. The 1997 NCAA Women’s Final Four also took place at U.S. Bank Arena.

UC partnered with the Cincinnati Sports Commission and U.S. Bank Arena to submit the bid to host the 2022 men’s basketball event.

“We are excited to partner with U.S. Bank Arena and the Cincinnati Sports Commission to bring NCAA Tournament games back to Cincinnati," UC Director of Athletics Mike Bohn said. "Thirty years is a long time for a basketball-rich city like Cincinnati to wait between hosting the premier postseason college basketball tournament so it's extra rewarding to secure this event with the help of some great organizations within our city.”

Additional information on the event, including ticket availability, will be announced at a later date.
