Diarra Signs with Cincinnati Men’s Basketball
May 2, 2017

CINCINNATI – Mamoudou Diarra (DEE-are-eh) has signed a scholarship to attend the University of Cincinnati and play basketball for the Bearcats beginning with the 2017-18 season, head coach Mick Cronin announced Tuesday.

Diarra, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward originally from Bamako, Mali, helped 22 Feet Academy to a 29-9 record in 2016-17 while earning First Team All-Grind Session accolades and averaging 18.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Diarra owns a 7-foot-2 wingspan and was one of 30 campers from 23 countries invited to participate in the NBA’s Basketball without Borders camp surrounding the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.

“Mamoudou is a great competitor,” Cronin said. “Playing hard is a skill and he has it and we believe in it. At 6-9, Mamoudou can make shots and block shots, which makes him very versatile. Obviously, we are going to graduate three seniors next year and we will have a need for guys that can score the ball and produce the way Kyle (Washington) and Gary (Clark) have for us. We think Mamoudou has a great future and will develop into a very, very good player at Cincinnati.”

Diarra joins three other prospects that signed with the Bearcats in November: guard Trevor Moore from Houston, Texas; guard Keith Williams from Brooklyn, New York; and forward/center Eliel Nsoseme (pronounced Ellie Nah-SOE-mee) from Kinsasha, Democratic Republic of Congo.
