CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team was ranked No. 18 in a 2012-13 preseason poll released by the Sporting News on Tuesday.

Mike DeCourcy of the Sporting News wrote about the Bearcats: "Shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick has only begun to show what he can be as a player. The chance to move to his natural position could unlock greater improvement."

The 2012 Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference selection led the Bearcats as a sophomore with 14.3 points per game. He ranked first in the league with 2.49 three-pointers per contest.

The Bearcats posted a 26-11 record last season, including a program-best eight wins over ranked opponents and the school's first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance since 2001. UC won a school-record 12 BIG EAST Conference games and made its first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship title game.
