Men's Basketball Announces Nonconference Slate|
July 2, 2014
CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball nonconference schedule for the 2014-15 season features seven potential contests against teams that competed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament and nine games against squads that won 20 or more games a year ago.
The 13-game nonconference slate is highlighted with home contests at Fifth Third Arena against four NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including North Carolina Central (Nov. 25), San Diego State (Dec. 17), VCU (Dec. 20) and Xavier (Feb. 18).
“We are excited to bring some great teams to Fifth Third Arena for our fans,” UC head coach Mick Cronin said.
The Bearcats will compete in the Emerald Coast Classic Nov. 23-29, with the first two games of the event taking place at Fifth Third Arena. UC will play host to Eastern Illinois (Nov. 23) and North Carolina Central (Nov. 25) before traveling to Niceville, Florida to play Middle Tennessee (Nov. 28) and either Creighton or Ole Miss (Nov. 29).
UC’s two other nonconference road contests come at Nebraska (Dec. 13) and NC State (Dec. 30).
The Bearcats tip off the regular season against St. Francis (Pa.) on Nov. 14 before welcoming Morehead State (Nov. 19).
“Our summer is going well and our returning players are taking ownership of the program,” Cronin said. “We will have seven new players to incorporate and are looking forward to this season with great anticipation of what we can become.”
UC will tune up for the start of the season with a pair of exhibition contests against Bellarmine (Nov. 3) and Fairmont State (Nov. 8) at Fifth Third Arena.
Tip times and broadcast information for the nonconference schedule as well details on UC’s American Athletic Conference slate will be announced at a later date. The American announced the conference pairings in late May. The Bearcats will play 18 league games, facing eight teams home and away (UCF, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Temple and Tulane) and playing USF only at home and Tulsa only on the road.
The American’s postseason conference tournament will take place at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut from March 12-15.
The Bearcats won a share of the American’s regular-season crown a year ago, posting a 27-7 overall record and 15-3 league mark while advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
