University of Cincinnati senior guard Sean Kilpatrick scored 10 points with a pair of three-pointers and four rebounds but Team USA dropped a 93-84 decision to Australia on Thursday in Pool C play at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.
Kilpatrick played 17 minutes shooting 3 of 9 from the field and also recorded a steal and assist.
Creighton's Doug McDermott led USA (3-1) with 22 points and four three-pointers. Colorado's Spencer Dinwiddie (14 points) and Indiana's Yogi Ferrell (10 points) also scored in double figures. Baylor's Cory Jefferson had six points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
University of New Mexico's Cameron Bairstow netted a game-high 22 points on 11-of-18 shooting to go with nine rebounds to lead Australia (3-1).
The U.S. led 64-59 at the end of the third period before Australia started the fourth with a 13-1 run to grab a 72-65 lead at 6:45. A basket by Jefferson at 5:47 pulled the Americans within three at 72-69 but the U.S. could not get closer.
The U.S. wraps up play in Pool C on Friday when it plays Canada. The game will be televised ESPNU/WatchESPN at 5 a.m. ET.
