Supporters Turn Out for Cronin Bearcats Classic|

HEBRON, Ky. – A large group of University of Cincinnati men’s basketball supporters, former players, coaches and fans turned out to Traditions Golf Club on Monday for the sixth annual Mick Cronin Bearcats Classic.
The yearly fundraiser for members of the Tip-Off Club gave supporters the opportunity to participate in a round of golf alongside the Bearcats coach and players from the past. Funds raised at the event help offset expenses for travel and program enhancement projects.
“This event provides a huge windfall for our program,” said Cronin, who enters his ninth season as head coach at Cincinnati this winter. “Without this we would struggle to be able to do some of the things we need to do to run a first-class program.
“It's also a great day of fellowship amongst Bearcat faithful, former players, former coaches and friends and family. So many loyal people come out to this event, so many of our long-time supporters and boosters. We’re fortunate to have so many people here."
Those unable to participate in the round of golf were encouraged to sponsor a hole or join the group at dinner and a social event that followed on Monday evening.
“I grew up being a Bearcat fan,” said long-time UC supporter Tom Gregory. “This event is huge for me and our family. Coach Cronin is not only the coach of our program but also a good friend. It's important for me to help with the program's success and today is a big part of it."
Former UC great Roger McClendon, a two-time first team All-Metro Conference selection who graduated as the program’s second all-time leading scorer (1,789 points) following the 1988 season, participated in Monday’s event.
“This is all about tradition and Mick knows a lot about tradition,” McClendon said. “It's a pleasure to come back and support Mick and what he is trying to do and what he stands for. He is building men of character and leaders as part of the University of Cincinnati program. It's a pleasure to be here to support him. I'm loving it."
Roland West, who led UC to the 1966 Missouri Valley Conference title and later was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets in the 1967 NBA Draft also participated in Monday's event.
UC fans are encouraged to join the Tip-Off Club which assists in funding targeted needs of the men’s basketball program. Contributors are provided active membership into UCATS, receiving priority points. Donations can be made on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis through the UCATS office. Membership levels range from $1,000 to $10,000. Those interested in joining should call the UCATS office at (513) 556-4884.
Traditions Golf Club also serves as the home course for the UC men’s and women’s golf programs.
Season tickets for the 2014-15 Cincinnati Bearcats basketball season start at only $99. Fans interested in guaranteeing their seats should place their deposit today at GoBEARCATS.com/tickets.
