Former University of Cincinnati men’s basketball player Pete Mickeal helped lead FC Barcelona Regal to a 99-85 exhibition win over the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks Tuesday in Barcelona, Spain.
Mickeal, a forward, scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with six rebounds. Center Chris Kaman led the Mavericks with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mickeal score nine of his 19 points in the first half, including a layup with 3:51 in the second quarter that gave Barcelona a 39-33 lead. His running jumper at 2:58 in the third quarter extended Barcelona’s lead to 66-51.
The game was televised by NBA TV.
Mickeal, who helped lead Barcelona to the 2010 Euroleague title while averaging 12.0 points and 5.1 rebounds, played two seasons at UC (1999-2000) helping the Bearcats claim two Conference USA regular-season championships and make two NCAA Tournament appearances while compiling a 56-10 record.
Mickeal averaged 14.9 points and 7.2 rebounds during the 1999 season as UC advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with a 27-6 record. He was also a member of the 2000 squad that was ranked No. 1 most of the season and finished with a 29-4 record after advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round. Mickeal averaged 13.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 2000.
