Ellis Named to The American’s Honor Roll

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior forward Octavius Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Trinity Valley College [Texas]) has been named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll, the league announced Monday.

Ellis averaged a team-high 13.5 points to go with 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 steals in 21.5 minutes during a pair of Cincinnati wins on the opening weekend of the season. He shot 75.0 percent from the field, making 12 of 15 field goal attempts during the week.

Ellis posted his first double-double of the season on opening night with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebound in 24.0 minutes during UC’s 97-72 win over Western Carolina (Nov. 13). He registered 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field to go with three blocks and three rebounds in 19 minutes during the Bearcats’ 106-44 home win over 2015 NCAA tournament participant Robert Morris on Sunday.

Selected first team all-conference in the preseason, Ellis averaged a team-high 9.9 points to go with 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as a junior. For his efforts a year ago, he was named Second Team All-American Athletic Conference and also garnered selection to the Riley Wallace All-American Team which honors the top Division I transfers in college basketball.


Cincinnati (2-0) plays its first road game of the season on Wednesday when it visits Bowling Green (1-0). The contest tips at 7 p.m. at the Stroh Center and will be broadcast by ESPN3 and 700 WLW.
