CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati freshman guard Lance Stephenson picked up his second BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week honor of the season, the league office announced, after leading the Bearcats in scoring vs. both Miami University (OH) and Xavier University the week of Dec. 6-13.
Stephenson opened the week vs. Miami (OH) with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds on Thursday, Dec. 10. In UC's 83-79 double-overtime loss at Xavier on Sunday night, Stephenson posted his first 20-plus point game of his career with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting. He also added six rebounds and an assist.
Stephenson, the 2009-10 BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year, has won the Rookie of the Week award twice in the first four weeks of the season, equaling Yancy Gates' two honors from last season.
Stephenson and the Bearcats look to rebound from Sunday's loss at Xavier as they travel to UAB on Dec. 16 for a 7 p.m. ET tip at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala. Cincinnati knocked off the Blazers in Cincinnati last season, 87-80, and are 15-9 all-time vs. UAB.
