Cincinnati to Take on Xavier in Crosstown Classic

The No. 11/11 University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team takes on Xavier in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Classic on Wednesday at U.S. Bank Arena. The contest tips at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2. It is also available on 700 WLW-AM.

A portion of the proceeds from the contest help benefit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Fans can still purchase tickets to the contest at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations, including select Kroger stores, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

The Bearcats are 10-0 to start a season for the second time in three years and entered the week as one of only eight undefeated teams in the nation.

UC is coming off a 72-56 road win over Marshall on Saturday in Charleston, W.Va. Cashmere Wright led the Bearcats with 14 points and four three-pointers. Sean Kilpatrick added 13 points and six rebounds. Justin Jackson had 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting with three steals and three assists.

Xavier posted a 62-55 home win over Kent State on Dec. 9. Semaj Christon led the Musketeers with 18 points. Brad Redford added 14 points with four three-pointers.

Cincinnati leads the all-time series with Xavier 48-31. The Musketeers won last year’s meeting 76-53 at the Cintas Center. This is the first meeting at U.S. Bank Arena since a 75-73 UC win on Jan. 29, 1987 when the facility was named Riverfront Coliseum.

-Today’s game marks the 80th meeting between Cincinnati and Xavier and the first at U.S. Bank Arena since Jan. 29, 1987 when the arena was named Riverfront Coliseum.
-UC is 7-3 against Xavier at U.S. Bank Arena, with all games taking place on an annual basis from 1976-1987.
-The Bearcats have won 17 consecutive games at U.S. Bank Arena since a 70-55 loss to Temple on Jan. 16, 1997. UC is 114-50 (.695) all-time at the arena.

Scouting Xavier
-Xavier enters Wednesday’s game having won four of its last five games after a 62-55 home victory against Kent State on Dec. 9.
-Freshman guard Semaj Christon leads the Musketeers averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 assists and 1.1 steals.
-Three other Musketeers average double figures in scoring in forward Justin Martin (12.9 points), guard Dee Davis (11.9 points) and forward Travis Taylor (10.1 points). Taylor leads the squad with 6.4 rebounds per game. Davis has made 47.6 percent of his three-point attempts (20 of 42).  
-Xavier finished last season with a 23-13 overall record and 10-6 Atlantic 10 Conference mark. The Musketeers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 before losing to Baylor 75-70.
