Wright Named to Weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll
CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati junior guard Cashmere Wright has been named to the weekly BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll following his play last week in Bearcats wins at Wright State and against Radford.
Wright averaged 18.5 points while shooting 57.7 percent from the field (15-of-26) and 37.5 percent from three-point range (6-of-16) for the week. He handed out 14 assists with only three turnovers to go with two steals and nine rebounds.
Saturday against Radford, Wright led UC with a career-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting with a season-high four three-pointers in the Bearcats’ 101-70 home win. He also dished out six assists without a turnover.
Wednesday at Wright State, Wright scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. He handed out eight assists with three turnovers against the Raiders.
Wright currently ranks fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.6 points. He leads all Bearcats with 4.9 assists per game. Over the past six games, Wright has dished out 38 assists while committing 11 turnovers.
The BIG EAST Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday. Louisville’s Russ Smith was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week while Connecticut’s Andre Drummond earned Rookie of the Week accolades. Wright was joined by Marquette’s Todd Mayo, Seton Hall’s Herb Pope, Syracuse’s Dion Waiters and West Virginia’s Kevin Jones on the list for honor roll recognition.
Cincinnati plays host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday and Chicago State on Friday. Both games start at 7 p.m. and will be televised by FOX Sports Ohio.
