Head Coach Brian Kelly
On getting the win
"Any time you can come away with a win, you have to feel good about it. Our kids have worked hard to put themselves in this position. You have to work too hard not to be happy with the win. Now we know we have work to do in all phases of our game, but we are going to enjoy this. The kids now know what they have to do to get better."
On what he told the team at halftime and the defense
"We pointed out to them that they need to play with a little more passion. Our defense picked up the intensity. We took the ball away in the second half and that's the kind of defense we want to play. "
On the play of Ben Mauk
"I thought he did some good things. He looked a little rusty. He missed a couple of reads I think he would like to have back. All in all, it was great for Ben to come back from a tough injury and do some really good things."
On the play of Mike Mickens
"We put him in the position to see the ball and make a huge difference. Last year you could run him out of the game, but this year you have to know where he is."
SE Missouri State Quotes:
Head Coach Tony Samuel
On the first half
"We were hanging in there. I was hoping we would get a touchdown out of that thing. We got the ball down to the one and didn't get a chance to convert. Cincinnati is a great football team that has some pretty good skill people. The defense is great."
On quarterback Victor Anderson
"He really did a good job. He is strong, got the quicks and moves around well. He managed the offense well, and that is what we needed to find out. "
On his outlook for his team
"I think we are going to be pretty good. I thought the kids handled themselves well on the sidelines. We got to knock some of that newness off our team. You will see us improve, and we will have a different mentality in practice. The biggest things about these situations (tonight's game and next week's game with SW Baptist in which SE Missouri is expected to win big) is that we compete with ourselves. We have to get better. Our goal is to win the conference, and in order to do that we have to get better."
