Cincinnati vs. Southern Miss.

Cincinnati Captains: 72 Digger Bujnoch and 13 Haruki Nakamura Southern Miss. won the toss and deferred. Cincinnati elected to receive and defend the north goal.

  • A total of 35, 258 spectators were in attendance for the 2007 Bowl.

  • The win gives Cincinnati a 10-3 record. UC totals 10 victories for the second time in the program's 120-seasons of football. The 1951 Bearcats finished 10-1.

  • Cincinnati is now 8-7 all-time against Southern Miss.

  • The Bearcats wrap up 2007 with a 2-0 record against Conference USA competition. On Sept. 22, they defeated Marshall 40-14 at Nippert Stadium. The win gives UC a 6-0 non-conference record in 2007.

  • UC is now 6-4 in bowl games and extends its postseason win streak to three straight.

  • Head coach Brian Kelly is 2-0 in bowl games and 11-3 as head coach of the Bearcats. Dating back to his final two seasons at Grand Valley State, Kelly extends his personal win total to 11 straight postseason wins.

  • Consensus All-American Kevin Huber kept Cincinnati in the early going through the change in field position. The nation's top punter, Huber boomed three punts an average of 51.0 yards per try in the first quarter.

  • The Bearcats turned the ball over three times in the first half...

  • Mr. Dependable throughout the 2007 campaign, Ben Mauk fell victim to a pair of Southern Miss. interceptions in the first 30 minutes of play. For Mauk, who tossed six interceptions in 11 games during the regular season, it is his first two-interception game of the year.

  • Cincinnati scratched pay dirt with 6:12 remaining in the first half to knot the score at 7-7. UC's scoring drive used seven plays to cover 75 yards in 2:19. On the drive, Ben Mauk completed 5-of-5 passes for 65 yards.

  • The Bearcats' leading receiver during the regular season, Dominick Goodman caught his seventh touchdown grab of the season on a 14-yard pass play from Ben Mauk. Goodman totaled six catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

  • The tight end tandem of Connor Barwin and Earnest Jackson combined to make eight catches for 92 yards in the first half.

  • Second-team all-BIG EAST cornerback DeAngelo Smith grabbed three interceptions. Smith snagged a pair of interceptions in the first half. The Columbus native established a new UC record with eight pickoffs this season.

  • After completing 9-of-15 pass attempts for 75 yards in the first quarter, Ben Mauk made good on 14-of-22 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns in the second quarter.

  • After Southern Miss. closed the margin to 21-14, the Bearcats marched 58 yards on eight plays, using 2:32 before Ben Mauk found Antwaun Giddens from 10 yards out for Mauk's fourth touchdown catch of the afternoon.

  • In the third quarter Ben Mauk completed 6-of-12 passes for 98 yards, including two touchdowns. Mauk was 29-of-49 for 327, with two pickoffs and four scores after 45 minutes of football.

  • Jake Rogers converted a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter. After splitting the uprights on his shortest field goal of the year, Rogers is 11-of-19.
