CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati senior linebacker J.K. Schaffer(Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) will play in the AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Saturday at 6 p.m. inside the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The game will be televised by the NBC Sports Network.
The teams will be coached by Tom Flores (American) and Dick Vermeil (National). Schaffer will wear No. 58 for the National squad and was selected as one of the team captains for the game.
Schaffer was a First-Team All-BIG EAST Conference honoree at linebacker and the Defensive MVP of the 2011 AutoZone Liberty Bowl. He led UC and ranks third in the BIG EAST in tackles, averaging 8.8 per game.
He finished with 114 tackles in the regular season, the third straight year he has eclipsed that mark, making him only the fifth UC player all time to do so.
He is the BIG EAST's leading active tackler with 337 stops. He also had 13 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, three interceptions, six pass break ups, nine passes defended, a QB hurry and three forced fumbles and recoveries.
"Our mission is to provide these young men with an unforgettable all-star game experience but just as importantly with invaluable information for their transition out of college," said Clark Gaines, NFLPA Assistant Executive Director. "The NFLPA is a player's primary resource for information on the business of football, and we will educate these players on how to succeed in the NFL and in their post-football careers."
