CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati football team closed out its second week of spring practice with a 109-play scrimmage under sunny skies inside historic Nippert Stadium.

It was the Bearcats first time outside this spring as the first six of 15 spring practices have been confined the indoor bubble at the Sheakley Athletics Center.

“The sun does shine in Cincinnati," Tuberville said. "What a beautiful day for a spring practice. They were excited about coming outside. It was a good practice. Our guys’ heads are spinning. We've got so much (of our offense and defense) installed during a week's time. They've made a lot of improvement. The big thing now is we come back, start over on Monday and correct our mistakes. I was impressed with how our guys came out fired up and ready to go. If we keep working hard like this, we will have a lot of guys who will make a lot of plays."

The scrimmage was controlled and situational with a group of referees working and the quarterbacks not live.

WR Anthony McClung (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and RB Anthony King (Chicago, Ill./Ayersville) had two of the top performances on the day. McClung caught four balls for 151 yards and three touchdowns, including a 73-yard pass from QB Munchie Leagaux (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr) that saw McClung fake out two defenders and sprint into the end zone.

King carried the ball seven times for 50 yards and a TD while adding a reception for nine yards.

WR Max Morrison (Kenton, Ohio/Kenton) caught almost everything that was thrown to him, or around him, tallying seven catches for 84 yards. Morrison made a few spinning catches along with a shoestring catch or two and also added 15 yards rushing on a sweep.

Legaux and Brendon Kay (Marine City, Mich./Marine City), competing for the starting QB job both had solid days. Kay was 7-of-11 for 115 yards and two touchdowns while Legaux was 8-of-15 for 150 yards and a TD.

All five signal callers on the roster saw action with Bennie Coney (Plant City, Fla./Plant City) throwing a pair of TDs, going six of seven for 104 yards. Trenton Norvell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) was 7-of-13 for 59 yards and an interception while Tucker Tuberville (Lubbock, Texas/Frenship/Texas Tech) was 6-of-8 for 65 yards.

Corey Mason (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had the lone interception on the day.

The Bearcats' defense racked up 14 sacks with the QBs in red non-contact jerseys. Adam Dempsey (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highliands), Dwight Jackson (Miami, Fla./Central) and Brandon Mitchell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow) each had a pair of sacks.

UC returns to the practice field Monday with three practices on the docket next week before the team will be off from March 16-23 during UC’s spring break. On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, UC will hold its annual NFL Pro Timing Day for 2013 draft prospects. The Bearcats’ 2012 seniors will have their chance to work out for assembled NFL scouts ahead of April’s NFL Draft.
