March 28, 2008
CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati starts its 2008 Spring Football schedule at Nippert Stadium on Tuesday, April 1. It marks the first time that head coach Brian Kelly's squad has appeared on the field since the Bearcats captured the Papajohns.com Bowl championship on Dec. 22, 2007.
UC returns 16 starters and 44 letterwinners from the 2007 squad that proved to be one of the most successful in the history of UC football. Cincinnati earned its first appearance in the final Associated Press Poll finishing the year at No. 17 after winning 10 games for the first time since 1951 and capping the year with a 31-21 victory in the Papajohns.com Bowl.
Kelly kicks off camp Tuesday with 92 players dressing for the first of 15 permissible workouts by the NCAA. The Bearcats add full pads to the mix in time for the third workout of the nontraditional season.
BEARCAT BOWL II, a 60-minute football game, caps off the spring for UC on April 26. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
