CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati football team wrapped up its seventh spring practice Thursday, working out for over two hours in the Sheakley Athletic Center.
Senior running back George Winn took time out for an interview after practice. Of the senior running back, head coach Butch Jones singled him out recently as a player impressing through the early part of spring ball.
"George Winn is an individual who is having a very impressive spring, not only on the field but off the field as well in a leadership role," Jones said.
Winn, a Southfield, Mich. native from University of Detroit Jesuit, took full advantage of Pead's broken chinstrap during the second quarter of the Liberty Bowl, spelling Pead and scampering 69-yards down the sideline for a career-long touchdown which put UC on the board and tied up the game early. Winn played in all 13 games a year ago, starting on all of UC's special teams and averaged 5.5 yards per carry while running the ball.
BUSY WEEKEND ON TAP
UC will return to the practice field on Saturday, playing host to a faculty/staff appreciation day as well as family day. Student-athletes invite their professors and instructors to practice for the morning. Faculty and staff will enjoy breakfast with the coaching staff and then sit through a short program put on by the football student-athletes and academic staff, tour the athletics facilities, take a photo with the team and be on hand for practice. Families are invited out to watch practice, take a family group and position group photos on the field following practice and have lunch with the team and coaching staff.

Along with the addition of cornerbacks coach Shannon Morrison to the coaching staff this week, there have been a handful of position coach shuffles. Mark Elder has moved to defense to coach the safeties and Roy Manning has switched to offense coaching the running backs.
HITTING THE BOOKS
The Bearcats returned to the classroom Monday for the beginning of the spring academic quarter. The spring quarter runs through graduation on Saturday, June 9.
The football team achieved a 2.75 team GPA for the winter quarter with 37 student-athletes above a 3.0 and 16 on the dean's list.
PRO DAY REDUX
Former UC student-athletes John Hughes (DL) and J.K. Schaffer (LB) worked out Wednesday for an assembled crowd of NFL scouts representing 20 teams. Hughes and Schaffer were both injured during UC's pro day earlier in the month and unable to work out.
