CSPN Names UC Football Cincinnati Sports Story of the Year|

CINCINNATI --The University of Cincinnati football team and head coach Brian Kelly earned the honor of Cincinnati Sports Story of the Year last night from the Cincinnati Sports Professionals Network at its annual award banquet held at the Hall of Mirrors at the Hilton Netherlands Plaza in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Coach Kelly was on hand last night to receive the honor from guest speaker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers. UC was one of seven area individuals and groups to earn accolades at the event.
The Bearcats concluded the 2007 season 10-3 under head coach Brian Kelly to earn a No. 17 ranking in the Associated Press Poll. UC led the country with 26 interceptions and shared the national lead with 42 takeaways.
Cincinnati returns 16 starters in 2008, including all-Americans Kevin Huber, Mike Mickens, and Terrill Byrd. Huber led all divisions of college football with his 46.9 yards per punt average. Cincinnati ranked 13th in scoring defense (18.8 ppg) and 16th in scoring offense (36.3 ppg).
The Bearcats were one of two NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision programs to finish in the Top 25 and graduate better than 80 percent of their football playing student-athletes last season.
Kelly and the Bearcats close out the second week of Spring Practice this week at Nipper Stadium with morning practices on Friday and Saturday. Spring drills close out on Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. with Bearcat Bowl II. The game is free and open to the public. Be there as the Bearcats unveil their new adidas uniforms that evening.
Events get underway at 3 p.m. with a youth football clinic at Nippert Stadium. Youth football players (Kindergarten - 8th Grade) interested in participating in the clinic should call the UC Football Office at (513) 556-5986 to register. Pregame events for fans of all ages begin on Sheakley Lawn at 5:30 p.m.
