CINCINNATI - Following the early morning earthquake in Southwest Indiana that brought shockwaves through the Queen City, the University of Cincinnati football team rattled windows around campus during practice No. 11 of 15 in another day of perfect conditions in Nippert Stadium. There were no aftereffects felt, but the Richter Scale peaked around the contact in the trenches between the linemen on the final Friday practice of the 2008 spring drills.
The team concluded its two-hour practice promptly at 11 a.m. Saturday morning's workout brings the third scrimmage of the preseason.
Comments from Coach Kelly ...
On areas of biggest improvement
"I don't know of any individuals that were off the charts today. I continue to like the progress that Demetrius (Jones) is making. On defense, we continue to make progress with guys younger like Drew Frey and Torry Cornett. Marcus Barnett has turned the corner in terms of how he comes to practice every day and his performance in the classroom. He's come to the realization that he is replaceable and that's apparent in his work ethic."
On areas or positions making the biggest strides?
"You're always looking at new pieces of your development. Right now, we are working to clearly define who is on the field in certain situations, whether it's on kickoff return, first and 10, third down and short, or in the Red Zone. Today, it's about piecing all of those things together to understand where you are and being able to put it all together in the fall."
