CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics, in conjunction with its shoe and apparel partner, adidas, unveiled its new football uniforms at its annual spring game, Bearcat Bowl II. The new uniforms, which include exclusive color schemes and numerals, are the result of two month of consultation with adidas, the football coaching staff, and the department of athletics.

"These new uniforms are eye-catching and will give the Bearcats a distinctive look that no one else in the country will have," said head coach Brian Kelly. The players who have seen the uniforms are excited to debut them when we take the field for our opener in August. We appreciate the hard work put in by adidas to turn these uniforms around. They are a true partner to the University of Cincinnati."

The most noticeable addition to the uniforms will be the new "cat scratch" logo that was specially designed by the adidas design team in Portland, Ore. The four scratch marks coincide with UC's nationally recognized "C-Paw" logo which features four claws atop the "C." This new mark has already been rolled out as part of the "Claws Are Out" season ticket campaign which debuted in March.

Beginning this fall, all 18 UC teams will be outfitted exclusively in adidas footwear, uniforms, training apparel, and accessories. Cincinnati is part of a select group of universities that have similar agreements with adidas, including Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee, Indiana, Nebraska, Michigan, and Wisconsin among others. adidas also has marketing agreements with the NFL, MLS and an 11-year exclusive all-league partnership with the NBA.

"Games are not won and lost by the uniform a player wears. Games are determined by our student-athletes, our coaching staff and our supportive fans in the stands, said UC Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "However, we want to give our student-athletes every advantage we can and by using adidas, we are putting them in the best possible cutting edge equipment and uniforms available."

Cincinnati Athletics and its retail partners and adidas have worked together to have the new jerseys available in the stores this weekend. The new jerseys will be available at the University of Cincinnati Bookstore located in the Tangeman University Center (TUC) and the DuBois Bookstore located just off campus at 312 Calhoun Street.

    New Uniform Technical Details:

    • Combinations. There are six possible uniform combinations - black jersey/black pants - white jersey/white pants - white jersey/black pants - black jersey/white pants - red jersey/white pants - red jersey/black pants.  The red jersey combinations will be worn annually as part of the Ring of Red game. This season's Ring of Red game will be Saturday, Nov. 22 vs. River City Rival Pittsburgh. There is no change to the helmet.
    • One-of-a-kind design - No other school will have the exact same style uniform design, including numbers and cat scratches.
    • Innovative - the new uniforms feature updated looks and the latest performance fabrics producing a skin-tight fit which minimizes grab for opposing players.

The Bearcats will debut the new uniforms on Thursday, Aug. 28 when they take on Eastern Kentucky University at 7:30 p.m. After a school-record 10 wins, a No. 17 ranking in the final Associated Press poll and a Papajohns.com Bowl championship, season ticket totals are reaching new heights as sales are almost 1,000 ahead of the pace of a year ago.
