Football Celebrates 125th Season In 2012

May 4, 2012

With only 125 days remaining until the University of Cincinnati football team kicks off the 2012 season against BIG EAST Conference rival Pittsburgh inside historic Nippert Stadium, the Bearcats announced plans Friday for the 125th season of UC football.

Cincinnati, which began playing football in 1885, is the fifth oldest football program in the country. Only Rutgers (1869), Michigan (1879), Navy (1880) and Minnesota (1883) have played football longer than UC. The Bearcats, 10-3 in 2011, are defending BIG EAST Conference and AutoZone Liberty Bowl Champions under the direction of third-year head coach and 2011 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Butch Jones.

To celebrate the anniversary, fans will witness many special promotions throughout the 2012 season inside historic Nippert Stadium. Bearcats fans who wish to celebrate the anniversary with the football team are encouraged to purchase a ‘Coaches Corner’ season ticket for only $125.

UC also announced the launch of Friday, a web site that will serve as the central hub for all interaction and celebration details surrounding the anniversary season including social media links, video content, top moments in Bearcats football history lists, and details on special events happening throughout the year.

Stay tuned for more information but be sure to bookmark the site today. All fans are encouraged to use #Bearcats125 on Twitter when discussing the 125th season celebration.

UC sends special thanks to the many Bearcats fans throughout this great city, all across the Bearcats Nation and the world who been a part of our program reaching this milestone. All of Bearcats Nation should be excited about celebrating the past and energized about making a mark on the future.
