CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati football team posted strong academic numbers in the 2014 winter semester, achieving a team GPA of 2.989.
Fifty-five student-athletes achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA, with 20 Bearcats on the Dean's List for achieving a 3.4 GPA or above.
Three student-athletes, Brad Harrah (Marion, Ohio/Marion Pleasant), Eric Lefeld (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) and Kyle Taubenheim (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland), posted perfect 4.0 GPAs during the semester.
"It's a tribute to our student-athletes and our academic staff," Head Coach Tommy Tuberville said. "I've been coaching a long time and don't know that I've ever had team numbers that high. Proud of what our Bearcats were able to accomplish."
Harrah, Cory Keebler (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) and Adrian Witty (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) earned bachelor's degrees in December 2013 and are currently enrolled in master's programs.
Camaron Beard (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), Jacob Giltrow (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), Lefeld, John Lloyd (Cincinnati, Ohio/CHCA), Jeff Luc (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast/Florida State), Tony Miliano (North Bend, Ohio/Elder) and Solomon Tentman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) earned degrees at April's commencement ceremony and will compete during 2014 as graduate students.
UC's academic staff is headed by Senior Associate AD/Student-Athlete Support Services Dr. Joe Luckey. Assistant AD Keri Thoman and Associate Director Rannen Roberson have the primary day-to-day oversight of football and are assisted by Director of Learning Services Jennifer Sturm.
In other academic honors, former offensive lineman Austen Bujnoch was named to the 2014 National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society.
Membership is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Bujnoch entered the 2013 season having already completed all degree requirements as a history major and is currently working a master's degree in health education while preparing for the 2014 NFL Draft.
