WEST HARRISON, Ind.-- The University of Cincinnati football team completed its third day at the Higher Ground Retreat and Conference Center and moved another step closer to the start of the 2007 campaign on Wednesday. Head coach Brian Kelly directed his squad through a single practice and continued to push the mental aspect with his squad.
"We're at a point now where from an offensive standpoint, our football knowledge is being tested everyday," Kelly stated. "We have guys who love to compete, who are tough, and are in great shape. Now we have to look at how much they understand the offense."
While progressing through the offensive playbook, the Bearcats' defense looks closer to game shape.
"I thought defensively we communicated well," Kelly added. "Today we did the two-minute drill and I thought the defense held very well. Offensively we did some decent things. Clearly we are at a point now where we have to find out what we do well."
While working out in the rural surroundings at Camp Higher Ground, the Bearcats are not missing many comforts of home.
Kelly commented, "Higher Ground is known for its work in customer service. They are kind to everybody and have volunteers going out of their way to make sure everyone has what they need. We are out here for 10 days and they love working with the University of Cincinnati football team. That makes for a pretty special atmosphere."
The Bearcats return for two-a-days on Thursday. Practices are slated for 9:05 a.m. and 3:05 p.m.
