The University of Cincinnati football team hopes to BLACK OUT Nippert Stadium Thursday night, welcoming NC State (2-1) to Cincinnati for an 8 p.m ESPN/ESPN 3D primetime matchup. Following Thursday, UC will go for 71 days without playing at Nippert as its next two home games against Louisville (10/15) and West Virginia (11/12) will take place at Paul Brown Stadium.

Thursday marks the second meeting in the series between the two schools. NC State beat UC by a 30-19 margin on Sept. 16, 2010 at Carter-Finney Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. QB Zach Collaros was 19-of-31 for 310 yards and three TDs and WR DJ Woods caught 6 balls for 146 yards and a pair of scores. RB Isaiah Pead was limited by injury.

Butch Jones is in his second season at the helm of the UC program and is 6-9. Jones most recently led Central Michigan University to a pair of Mid-American Conference Championships and three-straight bowl appearances. He holds a 33-22 overall record and a 21-8 mark in league games.

TOM O'BRIEN, a Cincinnati native, is in his fifth season at NC State. He has a 26-26 record at NC State and a 15-year career mark of 101-71. He is 1-1 against UC, knocking off the Bearcats 30-19 on Sept. 16, 2010 at Carter-Finney Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. and dropping a 24-6 decision in 1997 while the head coach at Boston College.


  • The University of Cincinnati, one of the five oldest football programs in college football, is in its 124th football season with an all-time record of 553-551-51 (.502).
  • Head coach Butch Jones is in his second season at the helm of the program, returning 16 starters, including nine on defense.
  • UC also brought back the BIG EAST Conference's top retuning passer (Zach Collaros), rusher (Isaiah Pead), tackler (JK Schaffer) and leader in all-purpose yards and receptions (DJ Woods) along with 51 letterwinners from the 2010 squad.

  • RB Isaiah Pead rushed for a season-high 155 yards at Tennessee. He is averaging 9.5 yards per carry, a mark that leads the BIG EAST.
  • QB Zach Collaros has been solid in three starts, going 43-of-69 for 521 yards and seven touchdowns. He has completed 62.3 percent of his passes and leads the BIG EAST with a 159.2 rating.
  • After finishing -15 in the turnover margin a year ago, UC has started off 2011 +12 (7 INT/5 FMB/1 FMB LOST) on the turnover scale. Its 13 turnovers gained lead the NCAA FBS. UC did not have its 13th turnover in 2010 until the final game of the season.
  • Cincinnati has outscored its opponents 90-0 in the first half this season at Nippert Stadium (41-0 vs. Austin Peay/49-0 vs. Akron).
  • UC has won 20 straight home non-conference games at Nippert Stadium, dating back to a 30-24 win over Temple in three overtimes on Sept. 20, 2003.
  • ESPN and ESPN 3D will broadcast Thursday night's game from Nippert Stadium, the first time a BIG EAST Conference team has been featured on the 3D broadcast.
