CINCINNATI--The University of Cincinnati and the University of Hawai'i have signed a contract for a game in 2008. The contest adds a sixth non-league matchup and a 13th game to Cincinnati's schedule for next season.
"Playing Hawai'i adds another Top 20 opponent to our 2008 schedule," stated head coach Brian Kelly. "This sets up a very competitive schedule, outside of the footprint of the BIG EAST Conference. June Jones is an excellent football coach. It is no accident that Hawai'i is 5-0 and ranked 15th in the country."
The Bearcats head to Honolulu on Dec. 6, 2008 to play at Aloha Stadium. The last time the two sides met in Hawai'i was on Nov. 23, 2002, when the Warriors came away with a 20-19 decision. The Bearcats won the only other meeting, 34-0, on Oct. 8, 1951 at Nippert Stadium.
As negotiated in the contract, the officiating crew for the matchup will be provided by the BIG EAST Conference.
Ranked No. 15 by the Associated Press and No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, Cincinnati hosts BIG EAST rival Louisville on Saturday night in the battle for the Keg of Nails. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
