CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati, in conjunction with official shoe, equipment, and apparel provider adidas, unveiled Monday a new set of football jerseys that the Bearcats will wear for the remainder of the 2010 season, starting with the 50th Battle For The Keg of Nails Friday against Louisville at 8 p.m. in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The new adidas TECHFIT compression jersey features a ground-breaking compression fit and weighs 30 percent less than standard football jerseys, enabling UC players to be lighter and faster on the field.
"The margin between teams in college football today is so small that we are looking for every advantage we can get," Cincinnati Head Coach Butch Jones said. "These TECHFIT jerseys from adidas could be that game changer. If you're confident that the equipment you're wearing is the best available, then you can focus that much more on what you are doing out there on the field. adidas has come up with a revolutionary new design that is sleeker and lighter than the jerseys we've worn in the past. I can't wait to see them in action this weekend at Louisville."
The new Cincinnati TECHFIT jersey from adidas is a complete reconstruction of the standard uniform with multiple innovations to reduce the weight of the jersey by 30 percent. These technologies include a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system. In addition, the Cincinnati TECHFIT jersey keeps players cool with integrated ventilation zones and moisture management fabric. Reduced seams and a restriction-free, high-stretch collar design increases range of motion to support player agility and speed.
"The new TECHFIT jersey design will make old jerseys obsolete," said Mark Daniels, director of football and team sports for adidas. "adidas is changing the game with this revolutionary jersey construction and compression fit because we know the right gear can make a difference during a split second play. Less material and a tighter fit means the jersey is harder to grab and you can't tackle what you can't grab. College football is more competitive than ever before and teams need every advantage they can get on the field."
In addition to Cincinnati, six other adidas schools will debut the new TECHFIT jerseys this month including Michigan, Notre Dame, Louisville, Texas A&M, UCLA and Tennessee.
UC will wear the white jersey Friday, before debuting both the black and red TECHFIT jersey models later this season.
