University of Cincinnati senior defensive tackle Derek Wolfe (Lisbon, Ohio/Beaver Local) picked up three more All-America honors Wednesday, bringing his postseason total to five.
Wolfe, the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was named a Second-Team All-America selection at DT by the Associated Press and Scout.com and earned a Third Team All-America nod from Phil Steele Magazines. He had previously been a second-team honoree by SI.com and Yahoo! Sports.
Wolfe leads the BIG EAST and ranks sixth nationally with 19.5 tackles for a loss and ranks third in the league and tied for 12th in the FBS with 9.5 sacks. Wolfe sits in fourth place on the UC career sacks list with 19.5 and 10th place on the UC career tackles for loss list with 35.0.
He was a first-team all-BIG EAST choice this season and posted 64 tackles, which ranks fourth on the team.
He is UC's sixth all-American since 2007, joining Terrill Byrd (2007), Trevor Canfield (2008), Mardy Gilyard (2009), Kevin Huber (2007, 2008), and Mike Mickens (2007, 2008).
The Bearcats return to action against Vanderbilt in the 53rd AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31, 2011 at Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, Tenn. The game will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET and air on ABC.
