OXFORD, Ohio---Cincinnati's Geoff Newman and Otterbein's Zach Sebert met in a play-off hole and a birdie by the Cardinals' Sebert made him the winner of the UC/UD Invitational which concluded on Tuesday at Hueston Woods Golf Course.
Newman matched his day one score of 76 to end the tournament at 152. Sebert carded a 74 on Tuesday to post an identical score and force the extra hole. First day leader Mark Sommerfeld of Detroit, faded to a 79 in the final round to finish tied for fourth.
The team standings showed Otterbein on top by a convincing 12 strokes over Dayton. The Cardinals posted a tournament-best score of 303 in the final round to end at 620. The Bearcats improved its opening round score by five strokes to 615, but still fell to fourth in the team standings.
Newman ended the tournament as UC's only top-10 finisher. Sophomore Luke Underhill just missed a top-10, tying for 11th after a second round 80 to score a 159.
The Bearcats will play one final tune-up before their first-ever BIG EAST Tournament, taking part in the Billiken Invitational on April 11-12.
