MADISON, Ill.---Geoff Newman continued his solid play of late, leading the University of Cincinnati men's golf team during the first day of the Billiken Invitational, hosted by Saint Louis. Through 36 holes, Newman stands 13th with a total of 147.

Newman showed great consistency during the opening day at Gateway National Links, firing back-to-back rounds of 74 and 73. The junior is part of a five-way tie for 13th and stands just one stroke out of the top-10.

Joe Young is also in the top-10, holding a tie for 18th with a score of 148. Young opened with a 76, before shooting a team-best 72 in the day's second round.

In the team standings, the Bearcats are ninth, trailing three teams tied for sixth, including BIG EAST rival DePaul, with a score of 601. Austin Peay, the defending champions of the event, hold a six-stroke lead over Tennessee Tech and Murray State with a total of 585. Saint Louis' Barry O'Neill fired rounds of 71 and 69 to hold a two-shot lead atop the individual leaderboard.

Play concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, with the start scheduled for 7:30 a.m. CT.
