University of Cincinnati junior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Brewbaker Tech/Central Alabama CC) and freshman Jared O’Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) are tied for 25th place at 7-over 149 after two rounds at the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course (par 71; 7,125 yards) in Palm Harbor, Fla.

The Bearcats slipped to seventh place in the team standings Monday and enter final-round play on Tuesday at 292-306=598. Seventh-ranked UCF continues to lead the 10-team field at 4-over 283-289=572. No. 31 SMU is second (287-286=573) followed by No. 9 Houston (292-286=578), No. 30 USF (290-289=579), No. 56 Louisville (299-281=580) and No. 46 Memphis (298-295=593).

Junior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) is tied for 30th place at 72-79=151 while sophomore Emerson Newsome (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School) is 35th at 78-75=153 and junior John Michael O’Toole (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley High School/Central Alabama CC) is tied for 40th place at 74-82=156.

“We just didn’t play well as a group today,” UC head coach Doug Martin said. “The conditions were much more difficult today with the swirling wind and we didn’t handle the adversity well. We got off to a slow start somewhat and tried to force the issue instead of just playing golf.

“The golf course won today,” Martin said. “We have to come out in attack mode on Tuesday and redeem ourselves.”
