Newman Earns Top-10 At John Piper Intercollegiate|

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio---Geoff Newman scored his first top-10 finish of the year, leading the University of Cincinnati men's golf team in its season-opening event, the John Piper Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green. Newman's final round 75 assured the senior a tie for seventh place in the overall standings.
Sophomore Albert Fernandez also put an exclamation point on his first tournament of the year, shooting a final round 74 to jump from 24th to 13th in the final standings. Fernandez's total of 150 was just three strokes off that of Newman's.
The team standings saw the Bearcats in a ninth place tie with Loyola (Ill.) with scores of 618. Eastern Kentucky dominated the event, finishing at one-under 575, 14 strokes better than Campbell University.
The Bearcats return to action Sept. 25-26, travelling to West Chicago, Ill. to participate in the John Dallio Memorial, hosted by BIG EAST rival DePaul.
