SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - University of Cincinnati sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic) shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday to tie for 42nd place at 8-over par 75-74-75=224 during final-round action of the Cardinal Intercollegiate at the Cardinal Club (par 72, 7,036 yards).
Mellon's final-round score was matched by teammate Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), who finished tied for 45th place at 9-over par 77-73-75=225. Other UC scores included freshman Blake Hamilton (Union, Ky./Ryle) tying for 66th place at 16-over par 78-77-77=232; senior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) tying for 74th place at 19-over par 79-79-77=235; freshman Emerson Newsome (Hoschton, Ga.) finishing 77th at 20-over par 85-73-78=236; and sophomore Michael Wolf finishing 78th at 21-over par 74-80-83=237.
The Bearcats finished 14th in the team standings at 308-302-307=917. Tournament host Louisville won the team title with a 6-under par 291-279-288=858. Bowling Green State's Wes Gates won medalist honors after carding a 7-under par 70-67-72=209.
The tournament's final round was delayed five hours due to rain.
UC next plays host to the Bearcat Invitational Oct. 8-9 at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
