HEBRON, Ky. - Junior David Tepe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) took second place in a one-hole playoff following a career-best effort and the University of Cincinnati men's golf team tied for eighth Tuesday in final-round action of the Bearcat Invitational at Traditions Golf Club.

Tepe forced the playoff situation when he drained a putt from more than 25 feet out on the 18th hole. He lost to medalist Brian Dorfman of Georgetown University on the first playoff hole at No. 10.

Tepe fired a career-best 3-under par 68 in the final round to finish with a career-low tournament score of 72-70-68=210.

"David Tepe has played great for us all season. He has been a mainstay in our lineup," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "I walked up to him on the 18th green and asked if he wanted to know (the situation). I told him he needed to make the putt and he holed a 25-30 foot putt. Anytime you know you have to do sometime in an athletic environment and pull it off, it's very rewarding."

The Bearcats shot a final-round 299 to finish tied for eighth with Marshall at 885. Austin Peay (868) won the team title by one shot over Kentucky (869). The eighth-place finish marks UC's highest finish in a tournament this fall.

"Being in fifth place entering today and shooting a 299 with David shooting a 68, it's a little disappointing. It's disappointing to finish like this in your home tournament. We have to keep getting better. I know the kids are working hard."

Junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the rest of the Bearcats, tying for 50th place at 71-79-77=227. Freshman Michael Wolf (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) recorded a 75-72-81=228 in his first collegiate tournament to tie junior Zach Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) 77-75-76=228 for 54th place. Freshman Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) tied for 64th at 72-83-78=233.

Four other Bearcats played unattached. Senior Kurt Harris (Dubin, Ohio/Jerome) recorded a 78-84-77=239. Freshman Mike Irwin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) posted an 84-79-77=240. Sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic) registered a 79-85-89=253. Matthew Ledom (Leawood, Kan./Rockhurst Jesuit Prep) posted an 88-84-87=259.

The Bearcats conclude their fall season when they compete at the Cabo Invitational in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Oct. 27-29. UC's spring season starts March 4-6 at the USF Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
