The University of Cincinnati men's golf team competes at the USF Invitational on March 2-4 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

The Bearcats have finished in the Top 5 of all six tournaments to this point on their schedule, including a third-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 18 to start the spring season.

The three-day, 54-hole  USF Invitational presents UC its strongest challenge of the year as six squads in the 16-team field are ranked in the Top 50 of the Golf Week rankings and 10 teams are listed in the Top 100. Illinois (No. 5), Florida State (No. 19), Auburn (No. 24), host USF (No. 28), Mercer (No. 39), Purdue (No. 43), Ohio State (No. 64), UNC Greensboro (No. 69), Florida (No. 77) and Cincinnati (No. 90) are all ranked among the Top 100 with Marquette, College Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Air Force, Wisconsin and DePaul also competing.

"The USF Invitational poses some great challenges for this team," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "The field is the best we will play all year. Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, Mercer, Ohio State, Purdue and USF all are having very good years. This will give us a good benchmark of where we are as a program and what we need to change to become a more elite team."

Junior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./ Central Alabama CC), junior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School), sophomore Emerson Newsome (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School),  freshman Jared O'Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) and  junior John Michael O'Toole (Pinson, Ala./ Central Alabama CC) will represent the Bearcats at the tournament .



Jared Howard led all UC players at the Rice Intercollegiate, tying for fifth at even-par 72-69-75=216 - five strokes behind the tournament medalist.  O'Toole tied for eighth place at 2-over 72-72-74=218 while O'Kelley finished 22nd at 8-over 79-72-73=224.

"I feel we are very familiar with the course and how it typically plays," Martin said. "We will have a good game plan going into the tournament. Execution will be key to our level of success. I look forward to watching these guys compete."
