CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men’s golf team begins action in the Lone Star Invitational on Monday, Mar. 20 at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.

“I am excited to watch this team in San Antonio,” UC head coach Doug Martin said of the two-day, 54-hole event. “All five guys will be playing in one group for the entire event. This really allows me to evaluate and help our players improve their games. Typically, we are paired in five different groups.

“The field is very good,” Martin said. “Illinois is ranked seventh and Oklahoma is ranked 13th. They lead the field. Briggs Ranch is a very challenging golf course especially if it plays form and fast. My only concern going in is the weather we have had since finishing up in Hilton Head. It hasn't allowed us to continue our short game work. Once we arrive in San Antonio it will be our entire focus.”

In their last event, the Bearcats finished fourth at the Colleton River Collegiate on March 7 Bluffton, South Carolina. Sophomore Austin Squires (Union, Ky./Ryle) and senior Jared O’Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) each recorded top-10 finishes. Squires tied for fourth at 4-over par 220 while O’Kelley tied for sixth at 5-over 221.
