Men's Golf Tied for Third at Old Waverly Collegiate

The University of Cincinnati men’s golf team carded a 1-over par 289 Monday to start the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship tied for third place after the first round at the Old Waverly Golf Club (par 72, 7,088 yards) in West Point, Miss.

Flooding in the area delayed the start of the tournament and later prevented the completion of the second round before darkness Monday. Second-round action resumes Tuesday morning with final-round play to follow.

The Bearcats are tied with Ole Miss and Florida, three strokes behind tournament leader South Alabama, who recorded an even par 286. Ten squads are ranked among the Top 100 in the latest GolfStat rankings led by No. 37 Memphis who is fifth at 2-over 290.  

UC junior John Michael O’Toole (Pinson, Ala./Central Alabama CC) is two strokes off the lead tied for sixth at 2-under 70. He trails tournament leader Lawrence Allan of Southeast Louisiana (4-under 68) by one stroke.

Junior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School) recorded an even par 72 to rank 16th. Sophomore Emerson Newsome, who won the tournament last season, is in 22nd place at 1-over 73. Freshman Jared O’Kelley (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School) is in 32nd place after posting a 2-over 74.

UC junior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Central Alabama CC) carded his best round of the spring season, posting a 3-under 69 but his first-round score was disqualified due to a scorecard error. He continues play in the tournament.
