April 15, 2007

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Four Bearcats shot first rounds of 80 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate hosted by IUPUI on Sunday despite howling winds at the nationally acclaimed Wolf Run Golf Course, ranked the15th toughest course in the nation by Golfweek Magazine.

Geoff Newman (38-42), Alberto Fernandez (38-42) and Joe Young (40-40) each carded 80s to help Cincinnati to a tie for sixth place with a team score of 322, while Blake Tucker also shot an 80 (39-41) competing as an individual. The Bearcats are tied with Oakland University and are just three strokes off of runners-up Miami (Ohio) and Indianapolis which both posted a team score of 319 after 18 holes. Akron, paced by Brad Wright's three-under par 68, leads the 14-team pack with 303.
