CINCINNATI - Senior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) of the University of Cincinnati men's golf team was selected to participate in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship May 16-18. Tepe will play at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams will compete at the Columbus regional. The low five teams and the low individual will move on to the finals which will be held May 28-June 2 in Atlanta, Ga.
Tepe becomes just the fourth Cincinnati player to be selected for the NCAA tournament and the first since 1974. He joins George McManis (1965), Geoff Hensley (1969) and Jon Nichols (1974) in the prestigious Bearcats club.
The senior earned his spot in the NCAA Championship after taking medalist honors at the BIG EAST Championship April 28-30. He led the field of 60 competitors throughout the competition and finished with a 8-under par score of 69-69-70=208.
Tepe was selected as the 10th individual for the Columbus tournament. In the individual competition, he will be joined by Scott Fernandez (Iowa State), Robin Sciot Siegrist (Louisville), Chris Selfridge (Toledo), Charlie Bull (Akron), Adam Schenk (Purdue), Matthew Moseley (Michigan State), Nathan Kerns (Marshall), Erik Van Rooyen (Minnesota) and Korey Ward (Xavier). He also will be facing players from New Mexico, Stanford, Auburn, South Carolina, Missouri, UNLV, Texas Tech, Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, San Francisco, Virginia, Charlotte and Valparaiso which are all competing in the team competition.
