2013 U.S. Open at Merion

Former University of Cincinnati men's golf player Jim Herman will compete in the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club, June 13-16 in Ardmore, Pa.

Herman qualified for the event Monday when he carded a 3-under par 68+70=138 to finish fourth out of 79 competing players in sectional qualifying at the Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. He recorded birdies on three of his last four holes in first-round action on the Century Country Club course in the morning then followed with a pair of birdies and 16 holes of par scores at the Old Oaks Country Club in the afternoon to advance.

Herman will be competing in his third U.S. Open, making previous appearances in 2010 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and last season at the Olympic Club. Herman made the cut at Pebble Beach, finishing tied for 47th.

A native of Cincinnati, Herman lettered in golf at UC from 1997-2000. He currently is a resident of Palm City, Fla.
